- Cloth diapers aren't just for diapering. They also make perfect burp cloths, changing pads and lap pads.
- Thinking about potty training? Use a cloth diaper for pre-potty training so baby can learn the process early. With a cloth diaper she will learn to feel when she is wet unlike with disposible diapers.
- Keep your changing table stocked! Newborns can wet as often as every 1-3 hours (or as seldom as 4-6 times per day), which can mean 70 diapers a week!
- To avoid a pesky diaper rash, keep baby's bottom dry and clean. Make sure to change soiled diapers immediately, as diaper rash is a common problem, especially among newborns.
- If baby is sleeping, let him be. Only wake baby for a diaper change if he needs to be treated for diaper rash.
- Since baby will likely fall asleep during or after nighttime feeding, change baby's diaper just before to avoid disturbing his slumber.
- Use diaper changes as bonding time for you and baby, when baby feels your touch, hears your voice and watches your face. Reserve special expressions and massages for diapering time so baby looks forward to not only getting a clean diaper, but spending time with you.
